Aptar Beauty, a global specialist in dispensing systems, has published a white paper entitled "From Field Work to Prototype: A Comprehensive Guide to Aptar's Inclusive Product Design Process". This white paper seeks to inspire the market by sharing design principles that enable the creation of solutions accessible to all.
Choosing the right partner for inclusiveness
Aptar Beauty collaborated with APF France handicap, an organization dedicated to supporting disabled people in France. The NGO supported Aptar Beauty by integrating UX design and ethnography approaches to understand the realities and experiences of people with disabilities.
"By adopting the principles of universal design, beauty brands can meet the specific needs of elderly or disabled people with fine motor disorders. At Aptar, we are convinced that this approach is the right way to innovate."said Xavier Joseph, Vice-President Global Marketing & Innovation at Aptar Beauty.
Towards inclusive design
The white paper builds on topics covered in a previous paper, "The Role of Packaging Dispensing in Making Beauty More Inclusive", published in October 2023. It looks at the practical aspects of integrating inclusion into the product development process.
The white paper offers help in understanding the principles of universal design, and informs on how to effectively conduct consumer tests internally and with external partners to validate designs.
Inclusive distribution solutions
Five products in the Aptar Beauty catalog are presented as being particularly appreciated by people with fine motor disorders, thanks to their ease of use: the GSA dispenser pump with Swan N4 or T8 actuator, EuroFlow with Falcon actuator, the Vita dispenser pump and the Gladiator aerosol actuator.
Aptar's main objective is to introduce a range of packaging that appeals to all consumers.
