The Île-de-France Region and Cosmetic Valley join forces to promote French cosmetics

After making it one of the priority sectors of its " Regional plan for economic development, innovation and internationalization On January 16, the Île-de-France region signed a strategic partnership with the "Impact 2028" Competitiveness Cluster. Cosmetic Valley "The aim is to reinforce the French perfume and cosmetics industry's role as a world leader, to help preserve its traditions, trades and know-how, and to develop its performance in research and creation.

The aim of this agreement is, first and foremost, to build a business network from the pool of cosmetics companies in the Paris region, turning it into a truly efficient and coherent industrial fabric, accelerating R&D projects and helping the companies that join it to expand internationally, thereby reinforcing the strengths of the Paris region's economy in the "cosmetics" field. beauty ": tests, measurements, olfaction and artificial intelligence.

The ambition of this new association is also to create, in the Île-de-France region, on the model of the Fashion Weeka Cosmetic Week with global resonance. This event, combining site openings, demonstrations, workshops, etc., is designed to give French and Parisian cosmetics a high international profile. Unrivalled in Europe to date, this event is designed to connect ETIs, VSEs/SMEs, start-ups, major companies and research institutes, and to bring their work and methods to the general public.

With an export market share of 24%1 and 3,200 companies employing nearly 250,000 people and generating sales of 45 billion euros, the perfume and cosmetics industry is the third largest contributor to France's foreign trade balance, behind aerospace and wines & spirits.

It was therefore essential for Europe's leading economic region to be at the heart of this success story. Ile-de-France accounts for 70% of sales in this industrial sector, and is home to almost 40,000 of its employees. The region is home to a powerful ecosystem, concentrating most of the industry's control levers, a large number of factories, plants and plants, combining downstream logistics and upstream R&D, as well as a number of top-ranking schools.

This mobilization was necessary. In addition to New York, Milan and Tokyo, the Paris Region now faces competition from Shanghai, Taiwan and Seoul, three global metropolises that have made cosmetics a lever of attractiveness, sometimes by combining it with other sectors of the future (digital, robotics, connected objects). Maintaining a leadership position in this context means bringing together all the players in the industry and getting them to act together, in order to promote the results of research that combines private laboratories and public universities, to conquer new Texport markets, to find solutions to the many tensions weighing on the recruitment of companies in the sector, and to remain attractive in the eyes of foreign companies in the industry. Thanks to the commitment of Choose Paris Région, the Île-de-France region's attraction agency, this agreement should also help to promote the Paris region to the many foreign groups looking to set up operations here and benefit from its rich ecosystem. Fabriqué en France", which is based on four pillars - ingredient authenticity, consumer safety, environmental protection and innovation performance - is our best asset in achieving this.

Cosmetic Valley is the player appointed by the French government to carry out this mission. Charged with promoting French quality, the Pôle de Compétitivité brings together 800 companies, large and small, accelerating their innovation processes and coordinating them with national and European public research. Working with 20 universities and research centers, including the CNRS, it leads 400 research projects and collaborative investments worth a total of 500 million euros.

In Île-de-France, Cosnietic Valley is already working to promote French cosmetics. Every October, it organizes the "Cosnietic 360" international cosmetics innovation trade show in Paris. Choose Paris Région takes part, marking the presence of the Paris Region since 2021.
Cosmetic Valley, for its part, is deeply involved in a number of cooperative ventures with top-level universities and schools in the Paris region. The cluster works even more directly with the University of Cergy-Pontoise (specialized in the use of lasers to study skin and hair), the SOLEIL synchrotron in Saclay (a research laboratory using light to analyze skin, hair and their interactions with cosmetics), the School of Industrial Biology and ISIPCA, an institute training the world's top perfumers.
This partnership is a promising one. It marks a new turning point in our strategy to intensify the public-private partnerships necessary for the development of French cosmetics.

Blue Beauty: the new Seppic formula kit for responsible beauty

At the Cosmet'Agora trade show on January 10 and 11, 2023, Seppic presented its new collection of seven formulas based on the "Blue Beauty" trend.

Blue Beauty highlights the interconnection between people and their environment, and how each can interact with the other. Sustainable development must be holistic, cooperative and take into account all stakeholders, from the use of raw materials to the use of the final product. The aim of Blue Beauty is to respect and preserve nature, particularly the oceans, while offering high-performance, safe and innovative beauty products.

The formulas presented at Cosmet'agora 2023 have been developed to inspire formulators in three ways:

1 - Use less water. For this purpose, Seppic offers an oily formula and an anhydrous balm. The balsam was entered in the Cosmet'agora formulation competition for its multi-purpose moisturizing, purifying and deodorant potential with high naturality (> 99 % according to Iso 16128). This melting formula is made up of just over 50 % of Emogreen L19 and 10 % of Sepifine BB, two texturizing agents providing a light, non-greasy feel, despite its anhydrous composition.

2 - Protecting the oceans from pollution. In response, Seppic has created two formulas. The first, a reconstitutable powder shower gel, features easily biodegradable ingredients including Proteol APL EF, a mild anionic surfactant inspired by the characteristic aminogram of apples, and generates a creamy lather. The second, an SPF 50 sun cream with fat-soluble UV filters, is formulated with Sensanov WR, an emulsifier with film-forming and water-resistant properties.

3 - More transparent sourcing. The three formulas feature active ingredients sourced in Brittany at Seppic's Pontrieux site. Codiavelane BG PF, a green seaweed extract with moisturizing properties, is sourced and produced in the same region, and features a transparent bluish gel formula evoking the ocean. Celtosome Crithmum maritimum and Celtosome Eryngium maritimum are derived from Celtosome plant cell culture technology. Developed from criste marine and panicaut maritime respectively, they target skin regeneration and radiance, and are perfectly integrated into a texture for mature skin. Finally, a spa treatment formula with Breton seaweed flakes completes the kit.

Over the last few decades, the beauty industry has evolved to take greater account of consumer concerns about safety, health and the environment. Blue Beauty is the latest step in this evolution.

Deeptech II Plan: meeting with the Ministers of Research and Industry

Faced with the technological challenges of the 21st century, France is banking on innovation from its public research and businesses. Launched in 2019 to foster innovation, the Deeptech plan will be strengthened.

During a visit to Lorraine on January 9, 2023, Sylvie Retailleau, Minister of Higher Education and Research, and Roland Lescure, Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, in charge of Industry, announced an additional €500 million to support the development of disruptive innovations that will shape tomorrow's world.

On this occasion, the ministers were keen to meet with university research companies, including Plant Advanced Technologies Pat.

The discussion focused on technology transfer and the history of Pat since its creation in 2005. As a reminder, Plant Advanced Technologies Pat was created to exploit a technology developed by the Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine-Inra, Pat plantes à milire. Since then, the company has expanded to include five subsidiaries, two of which are dedicated to Deeptech (Temisis and Cellengo).

Frédéric Bourgaud, Pat's Vice President, Research, commented: " Pat's ambition is to become a key player in the production of rare active ingredients with high health value, using disruptive technologies, and thus play an active role in strengthening the French bio-economic sector in the field of biotechnology. These advances have been made possible thanks to the joint efforts of our customers and the investors who have placed their trust in us, as well as the support of the public authorities - Europe, the French State and the Grand-Est Region - in our innovation efforts". He gave special thanks to the French government for its financial support in promoting innovation for the benefit of France's startup ecosystem..

TechnicoFlor explores a new playground: gastronomy

TechnicoFlor, supplies the biggest names in Perfumery, Cosmetics and Hygiene and its fragrances are used in many applications throughout the world: toilet waters, cosmetics, hygiene products, home care products, home fragrances...
Today, TechnicoFlor is exploring a new playground: gastronomy.
The house of perfume composition and the Marna Shelter Marseille Hotel propose to live a unique experience around a surprising lunch combining perfumed creations and culinary creations.
The idea? To illustrate the raw materials of perfumery by 2 starters, 2 dishes, 2 desserts, and to propose to the brands a multi-sensorial experience as well as a collection of perfumes resulting from this meeting.

Three Technicoflor perfumers, Jérémy Sabater, Marion Garcia Camaret and Félix Deschamps, worked on the subject for several weeks with the Marna Shelter Marseille chef, Loïc Sohnlen. A collaborative creation that was orchestrated in several stages: discovery of twenty raw materials used in perfumery by the chef of the Marna Shelter Marseille, then selection of six of them to integrate them into each dish of the lunch, and finally creation of perfumes from each of the dishes developed.

The result: a menu with very fragrant flavors:
Double play Duo of Cromesquis : Effilochee of beef with carrots & whisky, Sweet potato & star anise, served with a sauce based on aromatic herbs;
So close to the sea Beet Smoked Gravlax with black bread and radish pickles and a touch of citrus and pink berries;
Blue Gold Roasted cod, blue cheese crust, salsify purée, lavender emulsion, seasoned with shallots, white wine and thyme;
Lamb leather Lamb roast stuffed with smoked mushrooms, mashed potatoes and meat juice, seasoned with aromatic herbs, sazin and nutmeg;
Indian Summer Carpaccio of Persimmon with Jasmine syrup, Crumble and Mandarin;
Your perfect karma Gourmandise Tonka, Honey and Chocolate, Touch of Hazelnut.

Si Pres de la Mer Perfume and Gastronomy Breakfast TechnicoFlor Mama Shelter- Perfume - Product Info

And a collection of 6 new fragrances inspired by the dishes created:

  • Double play Citrus, floral and aromatic notes (star anise, carrot, vetiver) In order to illustrate olfactively the duo of cromesquis, I started with a woody accord of meat juice and sweet potato, to which I added the star ingredients of the dish : carrot and star anise. To create the whisky note, I created a wine lees, ginger and pink berry accord. For the sauce accompanying this entrée, I imagined an aromatic heart with parsley, coriander, mint and cloves. I also added a hint of natural vanilla because I could not sign a creation without my personal touch. "explains Marion Garcia
    Camaret about this perfume she created.
  • So close to the sea Aromatic, marine, pine notes (Cypress, Vetiver, Pink Berries). "
    With this dish as inspiration, I created a fragrance with powerful and salty notes. Like the chet I used the pink berry which blends perfectly with the bergamot. I used our cypress absolute (upcycledj to match the iconic coniferous world of the dish. I also exploited the toasted grain bread effect that speaks to us all. It is a fragrance with many facets and typicalities. "Jérémy Sabater explains about this perfume he created.
  • Blue Gold Lavender, marine and musky aromatic notes (Lavandin, Oakmoss, Musk). " For this dish I wanted to pay tribute to our beautiful region by making a marine accord, with notes of foam very iodized to recall the aquatic environment of fish that I softened with beautiful musks. And to recall the chef's lavender remulsion, I made a creamy milky accord in which I incorporated our lavandin absolute enfleurage which is absolutely magical. "continues Jérémy Sabater.
  • Lamb leather Woody, leathery, spicy notes (Cade, Patchouli, Cedar, Oud). " I worked a leathery/woody/smoky accord with Cade which brings smoky and leathery notes. I used Patchouli, cyprioi, oakmoss and myrrh to recall the mushroom. Virginian cedar to reinforce the woody accord, aromatics, coffee and cinnamon, spices, nutmeg and turmeric to sublimate this meat juice. For the meat note, I used sulfurol as well as oud wood and gaiac wood which also have smoky woody notes to blend in the composition. "Félix Deschamps explains about this perfume he created.
  • Indian Summer Floral, fruity, musky, peppery notes (Jasmine, Clementine, Khaki, Musk). " For this dessert, I worked an exotic fruity accord for the persimmon fruit which has a rather sweet taste. There is a Clementine start (upcycled) that can be found in a small piece of supreme on the dessert and peppers (pink berries/black pepperj that we discover in the chantilly. To illustrate the Jasmine syrup, I used absolute Jasmine (Fair Trade) combined with Maltyl Isobutyrate which gives the syrupy note. A vanilla note accompanied by a slight note of butter for the crumble effect. And an overdose of musk for maximum comfort. "Félix Deschamps continues.
  • Your perfect karma Gourmet notes (tonka bean, cocoa, hazelnut, honey). " To accompany this dessert, I started with a chocolate hazelnut accord. I added Tonka Bean and honey to coat the note and I wanted to add a touch of saffron and Osmanthus to make it more sophisticated. "concludes Marion Garcia Camaret.
    All this, presented to the perfume and cosmetics brands.
    At the end of the lunch, guests were able to vote for their favorite appetizers and dishes, "So close to the sea" and "Cuir d'Agneau", which will be on the menu at Mama Shelter Marseille in December and January. This innovative and much appreciated event illustrates how gastronomy and perfumery are two worlds where creativity is infinite.

Tecmatel and Realetee, a tailor-made partnership for unique external breast implants

Specializing in custom adhesive converting for over 30 years, Tecmatel supports the company Realetee to adapt medical adhesives to the dimensions of fully customized external breast prostheses for women who have undergone mastectomies.
In the middle of Pink October, Realetee, a manufacturer of customized external breast prostheses based in Nice (06), approached the Yvelines-based adhesive processing company Tecmatel (78). The aim was to find a long-term skin adhesion process for these alternative solutions to breast reconstruction.

Surgical reconstruction, whether immediate or posterior, is not adopted by all patients, but psychological reconstruction is indispensable. External prostheses are today widely adopted solutions for masking post-operative scars. However, in their current designs, they do not fully meet the needs expressed, as they are too often standardized.

Julien Montenero, founder of Realetee, has been creating custom 3D facial prostheses for over a decade. Since then, he has been looking for ways to transfer his proven technology into his facial rehabilitation designs to provide custom-made external breast prostheses. The combination of his proprietary technology and today's digital tools makes it possible to reconstruct the shape, color, weight and feel of the mastectomized breast. The result is a breast that is entirely tailored to the patient.

Recent advances in 3D technology have enabled her to realize this project, which she had been planning for over 20 years, and create these unique prostheses. This solution avoids postural imbalances, and allows the patient to continue wearing her clothes and underwear. " We take the patient's measurements using a device that records volumes to create a digital breast impression. This is our worldwide innovation: it keeps a digital trace of the patient's anatomy, enabling us to create a completely customized external breast prosthesis. Designed in the image of the patient's breast, it adapts perfectly to her body for greater comfort. "explains Julien Montenero. " However, we didn't have a solution for gluing the breast to the body, since we had to be able to adapt to the size and weight of the prosthesis, and to the order volumes of each individual. "he adds.

The Yvelines-based company Tecmatel and its 54 employees were immediately keen to take up Realetee's challenge. In addition, as an Iso 13485-certified company specializing in the processing of biocompatible adhesives, Tecmatel has developed the reactivity, technical skills and rigor required in this field, thanks to its previous partnerships and sponsorships in the medical sector.

Already in collaboration with 3M Médical Materials & Technologies and its key account engineer Franck Ajuelos. All it took was one round-table discussion between the protagonists to recommend technical and industrial solutions to the requirements of Mr. Montenero and his team. " As each person has his or her own anatomy, we are able to adapt to the various shapes and specificities required, thanks to our state-of-the-art machinery. Our technical platform, combined with the size of our company, also offers considerable flexibility for this type of request, from small to very large production runs. We would like to thank Realetee and 3M Médical Materials & Technologies for their trust and high regard for our expertise. "explains Hervé Abitbol, CEO of Tecmatel.

To make the prosthesis as faithful as possible to the mastectomized breast, and help every woman feel better after the disease. Maintain the prosthesis in all moments of life, even the most intimate. Cutting the adhesive solution to perfection, so that it becomes totally invisible. Respecting skin integrity over the long term... The objectives and challenges are ambitious for these two companies, who have decided to take up these shared challenges. " The Realetee definitive external prosthesis enables you to regain your figure after breast cancer and its consequences. Entirely custom-made and ergonomic thanks to our 3D technologies, it helps restore body comfort and mental well-being. "explains Julien Montenero.

" This partnership enables us to provide real support for women who need a mastectomy, and who will have to live temporarily or permanently with one or all of their breasts missing. We're delighted to put our expertise to work for this worthy cause. Supporting Realetee was a logical step, as it offers a truly innovative solution for women affected by breast cancer, a cause to which Tecmatel is very sensitive. We do everything in our power to help them improve their lives. "adds Hervé Abitbol.
