[Podcast] Regulatory dossiers, the end of sleepless nights for cosmeticians

Sleep disorders - Sleeping

Veeva and Industries Cosmétiques are launching a new podcast devoted to the day-to-day work of those involved in the cosmetics industry. Resolutely practical and short, each episode responds concretely to a problem encountered by cosmeticians.
After a first episode devoted to training, let's move on to regulatory files. Not as dry a subject as it might seem... So, David Égée, how do you reconcile regulatory files with the end of sleepless nights?

Scottish skin-tech company arrives in Paris with first international hire

Marketing - Businessman

A pioneer in the field of skin technologies, Cutitronics is consolidating its presence in Europe and will be developing its international sales prospects with the appointment of Virginie Darteyre as Sales Manager in Paris, France, to meet growing market demand.
Combining expertise in medical technology with a deep understanding of the skincare industry, the company has developed a suite of patented technologies that analyze skin condition in real time, enabling personalized advice based on the specific requirements of the individual and his or her environment.
The award-winning company's latest prototypes feature a wearable sensor that analyzes the skin, while the accompanying mobile app examines contributing factors such as weather and age, to determine how best to use skincare products to achieve optimal results for the consumer.
This enables brands to open a dialogue and create a bond with the consumer at home, a challenge highlighted by the current global pandemic which has left many people without access to the experts at beauty counters.
Home to many of the world's leading cosmetics brands, such as Chanel and L'Oréal, Paris was the obvious choice for Cutitronics' first international base to meet the growing interest of the European industry.

In her new role, Virginie Darteyre will develop the company's international sales and spearhead its growth trajectory. She brings over 15 years' experience in international sales, having previously worked in the fashion and ready-to-wear sector with well-known brands such as Fruit of the Loom and Firetrap.
Speaking on the occasion of her appointment, Ms Darteyre said, "It has never been more important for beauty brands to integrate new technological solutions into their strategies to meet the challenges presented by the pandemic. Beauty counters will no longer be able to operate as they used to, and spas and institutes must rethink their processes and systems to survive.

"The potential of these technologies to support independent and group-owned brands is unprecedented. Demand will only increase as consumers change the way they interact with skincare and brands look for new ways to connect with consumers.

"I can't wait to spread the word about this innovative technology in France. I want to identify new opportunities for this unique product where technology and well-being come together. I was immediately attracted by the concept and the corporate culture, and I can't wait to play my part in the skincare revolution.

Dr David Heath, founder and CEO of Cutitronics said, "It's fitting that this is our first international presence as we unveiled one of our first prototypes of Cutitron ® technology and accompanying software in 2019 at In-Cosmetics Global in Paris.

"We look forward to supporting brands with a permanent Paris-based team member who will be able to respond to inquiries and develop business opportunities, who understands the market and has a proven track record in driving international sales."

"We are proud to have put together a strong team from diverse backgrounds, and Virginie complements this with her proven experience and strong skills. We will continue to strengthen our team throughout 2020".

In addition to expanding its international activities, Cutitronics has held a number of management positions in the UK, including Chris Freel, who brings experience gained at Dyson to his role as Senior Mechanical Project Engineer, Louise Macpherson as Customer Relations Manager and Mandy Smith-Barr as Senior Project Manager.

The Verpack Group expands its offering by investing in a Heidelberg Anicolor press

Cosmetic industry - Industry

With its constantly evolving machinery, Verpack has recently opted for a state-of-the-art offset press. This significant investment positions the group to meet the growing demand from brands for short-run boxes and cases. Based on initial developments, the Heidelberg Anicolor promises to be a flexible, cost-effective solution that is also more environmentally friendly.
Well-known for its offset expertise, the Verpack Group is now exploiting its resources and extending its range of services. For the past few weeks, it has been testing Heidelberg's Speedmaster XL 75 Anicolor, whose functionality opens up new opportunities in this printing technique.

An agile, responsible solution

While the traditional offset model is perfectly suited to large print runs that justify the time needed to set up the machine and develop the color required for luxury products, it's a different story for short runs.
To meet the growing demand of this short-run market and its expectations of rapid development, the Verpack Group has chosen to invest in targeted equipment.
Thanks to its flexibility and rapid makeready, this Anicolor machine reduces waste and set-up times. Its inking technique facilitates color searches and guarantees stable renderings, whatever the substrate, the ink used and the sophistication of the decor (metallic inks, special colors, UV varnishes, etc.).

"We made the bold choice of multichromy".

"Thanks to the machine's stability, we'll eventually be able to consider multichromy, the best compromise between the quality and productivity of offset and the specific features of digital, which is most often used to produce mock-ups," explains Hubert de Maistre, director of Verpack Bordeaux.
"This hybrid printing technique perfectly meets our customers' specifications for short and medium runs. We offer them a fast, cost-effective solution with the same quality as offset, but with a more environmentally-friendly positioning. Our choice is certainly a bold one, but we have no doubt that this machine, with its resources, will enable us to increase our sales in this type of market" adds Stéphane Viers, Group Chairman.

"At Heidelberg, we're very proud to have extended our long-standing collaboration with the Verpack Group to this partnership around such an innovation. After offset presses, die-cutting, gluing and sorting machines, the choice of the Anicolor marks a decisive step which, I'm sure, will set Verpack apart from its competitors. With the Anicolor 50 x 70 in multichrome UV technology, Verpack becomes a real technological showcase for us, the first in France", comments Cai von Rumohr, President of Heidelberg France.

Bormioli Luigi perfects eco-friendly satin-finishing

Glass bottle - Verre

The process proposed by the glassworks respects the environment, while guaranteeing functional and aesthetic advantages.
Bormioli Luigi has developed an innovative, environmentally-friendly solution for finishing glass bottles and containers: ecological satin finishing, a ceramic lacquering process that complements the traditional acid-etching process.
Thanks to this process, it is possible to reproduce the optical and tactile effect of "frosted glass" without resorting to toxic and polluting substances: this new technology uses a water-based lacquer, which vitrifies at around 600°C, creating a satin finish on the surface of the glass article.
Compared with the acid-etching process, ecological satin finishing offers a series of advantages, both functional and aesthetic: as it contains no harmful substances, it has a lower impact on the environment, and there are no emissions of volatile organic compounds or disposal of toxic waste. This also means greater safety in the working environment, whereas with traditional frosting, standards must be scrupulously observed to protect operators and ensure safe transport of products and disposal of toxic residues.
Water-based lacquering also makes it possible to obtain a final product that can be recycled to 100 %; processing waste is minimal, as the sprayed product does not adhere to the bottle, and is recovered and reused almost to the end. It's also worth pointing out that bottles treated with this type of lacquer do not present any problems of material transfer, so much so that this process has been adopted even in the food sector for finishing glasses and bottles.
In terms of the aesthetic results that can be achieved on the final product, ceramic lacquering is more versatile than acid etching: it allows the use of a wide range of color pigments and the calibration of color intensity. Ecological satin finishing can take advantage of masking, i.e. it can be applied only to certain parts of bottles or containers. Finally, this solution is compatible with certain additional machining operations, including decorations that can be fired up to 600°C.

The sustainable trajectory of Quadpack's Regula Jar

Product - QUADPACK
Manufactured in Europe by Quadpack group company Louvrette, the Regula Jar is a perfect example of Quadpack's relentless pursuit of eco-responsible packaging:
Reduce - A thick-walled pot lightened by 50 %, while retaining the same printing dimensions: these are the main features of Regula Light, a lightweight pot that reduces the carbon footprint of transport.
Recycle - The challenge was to start offering Regula Light in recyclable and recycled options - Louvrette chose SusPET (a recyclable virgin material) and PCR (post-consumer recycled). Regula Eco was born! A new glass Regula, a top-of-the-range recyclable product, will soon be available.
Replace - It's time to look for even more sustainable options: compostable and biodegradable packaging. Quadpack is exploring alternatives like Sulapac, which allows us to replace traditional plastic with a material that releases no post-decomposition microplastics, made from wood and natural biopolymers.
Reuse - Quadpack continues to explore ways of making packaging more sustainable, working across the entire product lifecycle from sourcing to disposal. So why not make the Regula and other ranges refillable? The new Regula Airless will be launched this summer.
Regula Light and Regula Eco are available in 50 ml sizes.

[podcast] The end of sleepless nights

Sleep disorders - Sleeping

Veeva and Industries Cosmétiques are launching a new podcast dedicated to the day-to-day work of those involved in the cosmetics industry. Resolutely practical and short, each episode responds concretely to a problem encountered by cosmeticians. The first episode is devoted to training.

Here are the first two questions from the first episode! The rest is in the podcast!

The first episode focuses on employee training in the cosmetics industry. A vital and worrying subject. Yet you're announcing the end of sleepless nights. But how?
David Aegeus (1): As far as training is concerned, I can't count the number of hours spent trying to find a solution to simple questions like :
- What do employees need to know to do their job well?
- Besides, how do I get a list of what he needs to know?
- How can I be sure that he's done his training properly, and above all that he's retained the essentials?
- How do I manage changing needs?

And then, after having dried up on these questions, we say to ourselves: ah, but safety, we also need to train employees in safety according to what they do. And then HR, and then, and then, and then....
It's complicated!
And why sleepless nights? Because it's important, even critical! Important for your organization's performance, and critical on the day of audits and inspections. You can't afford to fall short in this area.

So how do you go about it?
David Aegeus: The only way to combine simplicity and performance is to implement dedicated IT solutions.
Pragmatic and reliable, they ensure that everyone has the prerequisites for a good workstation.
